Every once in a while, someone comes to me and asks me to help them with their moments of doubt.

What I am talking about is, that one question that goes through everyone’s mind once in a while:

“Where did my passion and drive for my work disappear?”

Have you ever asked yourself that?

I believe you had.

Whether it’s your passion for your job within a company, or your passion for your work within your own business.

I know this is a really scary question, but the truth is… you’re not the same person you were a year ago, five years ago or even 20 years ago. So the fact that you may be having these doubts… is normal.

But even so, even if you’ve changed a lot, it is important for us to figure out if:

  1. Your passion is still there
  2. And if it is still there, how can you sort of reignite that passion to help you within your business? Or within your role at work?

And lastly:

  1. If it’s not there, what do you do?

But there’s a good side to this. If you are struggling to find your long lost passion, that tells me that at one point in time you had it.

And if you once had a burning drive towards your passion, it means that somehow some time ago that fire started fading out.

All it takes now is to find out where your passion went.

Sounds easy. Might take you a few turns. But don’t worry. I’m here to help you through it.

Firstly, let’s start off by taking you back to when you had that passion that you’re looking for now.

I want you to go back now and just imagine yourself at the last time that you knew you were passionate about what you do.

As you take yourself back in time, I want you to just understand what is coming up in terms of feelings. And if you’re a really visual and creative person, look around you for what’s changed.

To make it easier, ask yourself this:

Has something changed for me or around me? Maybe when I had the passion, there was something that made me feel passionate, and now… it’s not there anymore?

That could be a management change or a shift in family dynamics. It can be anything.

And if there is something missing, I want you to think about what can you replace that feeling or thing with?

What has changed from back when you had that passion? Was that change a necessity for your drive to work? Or was it just a pleasurable desirable thing?

Listen, this is really important. If it’s a “desire” you can usually switch it. You can put that desire in something else that will help you reignite the passion.

But if it’s a necessity, then we have to look at step three in terms of…

“Is what you’re doing now right for you?”

And if it’s not, what do we do next?

As you took yourself back to the last moment of when you were truly passionate about what you’re doing… What was the moment it stopped?

When did it stop?

Look, those questions are not easy to answer. But you already know it…

You know when you stopped being passionate, even if you’re not aware of it… Yet.

But now you have the questions, so all it takes is to give the right answer.

What is it? And be honest with yourself now.

I can’t give you the answer for you. All I can do is to guide you with the right questions.

Just go back in time to when you had that passion and look around you and within you. What is different now from back then?

What changed and can you spot when and how your passion started fizzing down?

Yeah… I thought so.

That thing that you’ve just thought of, about why you perhaps are not as passionate anymore… is the reason you lost your passion.

That thing tells you whether you should continue to do what you’re doing now, or you need to change it.

Now listen, if that is something that you can tangibly change within your environment, then we need to think about resources around you that you can implement to create more passion within.

So what are those resources?

  • Can that be a different working environment?
  • Can that be changing up your routine in terms of timings or people you’re seeing?
  • Can that be changing up your method of getting new business and speaking to your clients or customers?
  • Maybe you can change the family dynamics?
  • Do you currently work at home and maybe you need to change that environment?

Look, whatever it is, we can change it.

So if you know the passion is still there, then we just need to do some tweaks, we’ll find out what that is.

Easy.

But even if you know that the passion is gone and it cannot come back, then change what you’re doing.

Easy.

I know what you’re thinking.

“Steven, you know nothing about me. I can’t just get up and just change EVERYTHING in my life. There are too many things at risk.”

Well, you don’t need to change EVERYTHING. Just one small aspect of your life – your limiting beliefs.

And I’ll even give you a chance to prove me wrong. I’ll get to that in a moment.

So if you’re working in a role, you need to go and start changing your role, right?

Whether that’s speaking to HR, or even looking for a new job – start having conversations with people, go out there and see what else is available to you.

Start now implementing some changes.

But what do you do if you have your own business and it can’t be changed?

Good question.

In this case, think about how can you change your business and perhaps keep your business but change it in a way that will get you more passionate?

Or maybe you even need to step away from your business… But in this case, can you put other people in charge of your business?

This way you can step away and go off to find out what your new passion is.

Because this is the thing about passion.

We change it.

We change it all the time.

Think about this: your passion when you were 10, is not the same as your passion now.

Your passion now is not going to be the same as when you’re going to be 80 or 90 or 100.

Passions change… Just like values and beliefs.

So whatever it is that you need to do about your passion, I want you to start implementing changes now.

Maybe after you finish reading this article you start googling new roles, new ways to get clients or new marketing methods.

Whatever it is, do that what excites you…

And over the next couple of weeks, months, years we’re going to play with it, tweak it and we’re going to change it.

Because in the end, if you keep doing the same thing over and over again, you will get the same results.

Same with this.

If your passion as when you first started has changed, you need to change what you’re doing or how you’re doing it.

It’s normal.

Now, why you should care about all this? Simple… Because you’re one of the lucky ones. You’ve now realized that something needs to change.

It’s about becoming aware of what that change is, and changing it…

What is your passion?

Let me know because I’m really interested to find out. Let me know in the comments below what your passion is.

Oh, and if you still don’t see how you can change your current life situation because it’s too risky, why don’t you tell me more about it and let me show you that one way and remove any roadblocks you may find on that path.
