Whatever you are focusing on these days, it is probable that in the next couple of months you’ll decide that it is time to change.
3 Months to be more precise.
You know, the best part about my job is that I get to work with so many different people. All of whom have unique and truly fascinating stories. In fact, I could never use the same approach to two of my clients.
But even so, there is something that all my past, present and (for sure) future clients have in common.
Well, it’s something that all of us share, including you and me. And you know what? It is something that even Google, Facebook and Yahoo have in common.
I was speaking to a client recently who was having some problems getting focused. He told me that he can’t concentrate and maintain his attention on one task long enough to solve it.
So we sat down and spoke about what he wanted to do and what he wanted to achieve. And he said, he just wanted to get consistent and have results.
Now, this may sound quite obvious, perhaps, you already know exactly what you want to achieve and improve in your life. Whether it is growing your business and taking it to a new level that you may not even be aware of right now, spending more time with your family or teaching your dog how to ride a bike around a squirrel juggling three small nuts dressed in a small pink skirt.
Which is great, except for the fact that most people don’t know how to develop this habit of having consistent results.
At this point, I assume that you’re wondering what is this all about? What is this habit? What is the consistency all about? And why should you be consistent?
Here’s why it’s so important: Results hate chaos. This is really important. It is so important that I’m going to repeat it one more time:
Results hate chaos.
By the way, in case you’re still wondering what do Yahoo, Google and Facebook and have in common, here’s the answer: It’s the double “o” letter in their names.
Could this be a pattern that helped them become the giants that they are now? I don’t know. But what I know for sure is that human beings love creating patterns.
That is one thing that we all share.
Look, recognizing your patterns is a really important skill. It can help you notice what works, what might not work in the future, what should be improved.
And if you’re someone who changes their mind every three months or so, that’s a really clear pattern.
A lot of people every three months have a new thing, a new idea, a new focus… Which means you aren’t allowing yourself to get consistent results.
Which probably isn’t really aligning you to where you want to be in your business, and inevitably, where you want to be in your life.
Which is also probably having a bigger effect on the relationships you’re having with family, your relationship with yourself, your money, your time, your fun, everything, right?
Because everything’s related. And everything around us begs for making exceptions. For changing our plans, or strategies.
But you know how they say “Old habits die hard”, right? Well, developing new habits is even harder, especially habits that take time, and effort, and discipline.
This is why I want to help you. You see, I like to make things as simple as possible for you, that’s why I’m gonna break thi down into five really key and simple steps.
So assuming that you really want to get consistent and better results in everything that you do, I present you 5 simple step for you to consider:
- Create Specific and Realistic Goals
This is probably the most important step you’re ever going to do. Consider this: I dare to assume that you’re usually having a very specific goal, but it’s very unrealistic or very realistic goal, but it’s just not very specific.
You know, you can have a specific goal like: “I want to have 2347 pounds by the end of this month.”
Well, we might call it specific, but that’s not really achievable, right?
Or you can have realistic goals like “I want to be able to get two new clients by the end of the year.” But that’s not really specific though.
So hear this: you need to combine them both, combine the two and have a specific realistic goal.
From this, you’re going to have direction and you’re going to be able to envision and see things a lot more clearly.
- Routine
This one is my favourite.
Now, are you a morning person, evening person, or you know, middle of the day person?
Whatever sort of person you are, you will currently have a routine.
I need you to stop and just see if this routine is working for you right now. If it’s not, we need to change it. We need to adapt and switch things up.
There’s the old saying of “You can do 100 things the same time expecting different results”.
Same can be applied to your routine.
If you’re doing the same thing over and over again, every day, every month, every year, even on holidays and you’re not getting the results you want, then let us look at your routine in real detail, okay?
And I’m not saying that it means you have to get up at 4 am and hustle, hustle, hustle. Because listen, if there is something that works for me, it doesn’t mean that it can work the same for you.
I don’t even want to get up at 4 am, why would I do that?
Anyway, your routine needs to be bespoke to you.
- Awareness
If you’re reading this now, it means that we’re somehow connected. Either it’s on Facebook, LinkedIn or we have already worked together before.
That being said, I assume you already know that awareness is like my favourite word and trigger point because I’m constantly repeating it.
Awareness, awareness, awareness.
Look, if you’re not aware of things, how can you expect to change them?
So let me ask you something: Are you firstly getting the results you want? No. Okay.
But are you aware why?
That’s exactly what I’m talking about.
Stepping aside and looking around can give you this awareness of what’s going on in your life, in your relationships or in your business.
The easiest way to start is by asking yourself some of the basic questions, like:
How did you have that conversation with that client? How are you having conversations with yourself?
What is your current routine and is it helping you?
How specific and realistic are your goals?
After you learn to be aware of yourself and your surroundings, it is time to go to step 4.
- Focus
On my next birthday I want to get a T-shirt with something specific printed on it:
Focus down
Now listen, it is very important that you can focus on the important stuff without getting distracted or… deciding to change your entire strategy after only three months (patterns, again.)
Focus down on what you’re doing, focus down on what you’re focusing on.
Focusing enables you to have more time, have more control, have more direction, and more clarity and have the ability to change and adapt as you go along.
But be careful my friend, because if you believe that you can focus on 100 things or so at the same time, things are going to happen around you but you won’t be able to see them, you won’t realize they’ve happened.
That’s not gonna get you consistent results, we don’t want that right?
- Celebrate the success
This is probably one of my favourites.
How do you measure success? Is it when you win a deal that you’re successful? Or when you make a huge sale?
Or perhaps, it’s when you’ve finally taught your dog to ride a bike.
Once you start celebrating your wins more often, you’re going to have more wins because you can anchor these good feelings to that result.
And the more this result happens, the more the good feelings happen, and vice versa.

Celebrate that phone call you did this morning.
That leads to something even if you don’t know what that something is yet, celebrate your wins. Did you get to work on time, if you work in an office? Celebrate that win.
No matter how small, you need to be celebrating your wins.
And when you have big wins, you really need to celebrate.
And I’m not saying that you know, you go out and hire a yacht and party for three weeks.

That could be you treat yourself at lunchtime to something, I don’t know. Or you literally just go “Good job, Steven!”
That’s it. These are my five really simple, really simple techniques for you to develop a habit of having consistent results.
Isn’t that wonderful how easy it is?
