5 Reasons Corporate Trainings Breed Artificial Leadership

5 Reasons Corporate Trainings Breed Artificial Leadership

People have this stigma of what leadership is. That you have to act a certain way or be a certain way to get results. And only after you’ve gained enough experience following those predefined steps you will be seen as a good leader. This thought process has become the staple of becoming a good leader for over 50 years. But is that really the right way to school leaders? In my opinion, it isn’t. Because at this point, all you are doing is trying to fit in the box of what someone else thinks a leader should be. The majority of leaders that I coach at first think they're good leaders. But the team they are leading have a different opinion. And if the people you're leading are saying you're not great then are you a leader? Most leaders out there are part of the same school of thought. Someone decided they need leadership training and have put them in a room with 20 other...

The word success is thrown about almost as much as recruiter bashing here on linkedin. But what is "success" and how can you create it? According to the dictionary, this is how success is defined: the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's goals. The attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like. A performance or achievement that is marked by success, as by the attainment of honors A person or thing that has had success, as measured by attainment of goals, wealth, etc Obsolete. Outcome But in reality, success can only be defined by you. Now how can you CREATE more success for yourself? Here are 5 things that you can do right now. Curiosity: First you have to be curious about what you want you to define YOUR success to be, stop now and think about really what it is "success" to you. Awareness: Where are you currently? What do certificates even mean?

Here is a list of some of my accreditations and training; NLP Trainer NLP Master Practitioner NLP Practitioner Certified life and business coach LAB Profile Practitioner (although I need to send off the final bit for this - its on my list this week!) Certified mBIT Coach Also recently took an Eriksonian hypnosis course which plays into the coaching side massively and I will be doing more training this year and the years to come because I absolutely love learning more about the brain, our behaviors, and patterns. And all training was face-to-face... none of this online accreditation stuff! But here is the thing, how many people do you think have asked me about my certification? Honestly, in terms of professional bases... none Friendly chat bases I would say about 5. So what does that tell you... That the training wasn't needed? That people don't really care what you have? What else? SO what it tells me, is that you just have to start doing what you want to...

The 5 benefits of leadership training

The 5 benefits of leadership training

Leadership training, it has almost become a bit of a buzzword that is thrown around conferences for you to buy into the newest thing. But my view on leadership training is simple… It can transform ANY business, no matter how BIG or small and elevate the success of the business but most importantly the success of the PEOPLE who make up the organisation. So, as a trainer myself, here are my top 5 benefits of leadership training; 1.    Deeper learnings – Learning about yourself and your team is one of the best things you can do as a business, discovering your own learning styles, communication traits and the same of those around you. But the learning should always be deeper (my pet hate is a 4-hour power point presentation) it should be hitting your team IN the room but also when they go home or sit back at their desks. The learning should be processing over a few days and not just a lunchtime. 2.    Faster results – You...

*I have officially made it!*

I have finally got a photo with Richard Branson, I am officially successful. If you look up Success in the dictionary then the photo below will appear and it will say "Steven Haggerty is successful... can't you see? Now just to get a photo with Arnold, Tim Cook, Gary Vee and whoever is is trending on the twitter this week. But I have a confession to make.. Believe it or not, this photo is not real, yes I know it is a shock to you. But I can't let this go on anymore! But more and more I am seeing people posting photos like this, with celebrities or in front of the latest Lambo/tesla/reliant robin and others looking on in awe. I speak to entrepreneurs and business leaders on daily bases and here are some common themes that I see; - Not knowing their own personal values - Not having true business values to build upon - No goals - "Adopted beliefs" - Lost or losing connection with self - Lack of...

Are you more afraid of hitting your goals or not hitting your goals?

Are you more afraid of hitting your goals or not hitting your goals?

This it is a common pattern I see with entrepreneurs - fearing hitting their goals. Here is the thing about goals - you are in complete control of them, the size, the timeframe and the knock-on effect of reaching/hitting the goals. When I see people NOT hitting goals they set, there is always a reason for it (remember there is a strategy for everything) (on a psychology level there is usually a belief behind it when you are not hitting goals, such as feeling like you do not deserve the success, imposter syndrome and more) But for me before you can do anything about it, it must all begin with the awareness. Some people are not even aware that they move/change their goals so often that they never actually reach goals. But if you are always moving/changing the goals then this can hide the fact of something else that is going on. I check in with myself every three months and in this check in I assess what goals I...

This book changed the way I remember things… and I have only just bought it!

This book changed the way I remember things… and I have only just bought it!

Let me take you back to October... I am sat in a training room in Marbella, with the first of 6 exams in front of me, staring at the first three questions and thinking... SHIT. See I knew what the answers were, but I couldn't access the answers in a way to actually get them out onto paper. My strategy had failed me. This was the first exam in my life that I truly cared about, that I really wanted to ace and as I was sat there staring at the paper thinking "I have cocked this right up" I got frustrated, I mean really frustrated... I hated the feeling of knowing the answer but not knowing how to answer it. I was self-sabotaging myself in front of my very eyes. I dragged myself through the exam and passed the first one (just), but I wasn't happy with the fact I felt I cocked up. That evening my great friend and fellow NLP Trainer John Montgomery was staying at...

How I made my first £5

How I made my first £5

I want to share with you the first time I did some business that made me more than £1 (I say more as I used to be that kid who would knock on your door and offer to wash your car for 50p) The year was 2003 - I had just joined a new high school after leaving primary school. I would of been 11/12 For those of you that remember limewire will remember how great it was but at the same time you would be fearful of downloading a virus that would destroy your computer and you would have Mi5 knocking at your door...well thats what I always thought. At my high school It was right next door to my primary so many of my friends also went to this one, luckily that means an automatic friendship group - many which I am proud to say I am still very close with today. I think this is the time my entrepreneurial bug really...

Why do companies de-value their employees?

Why do companies de-value their employees?

Let's be real here, of course not ALL companies de-value their employees but a heck of alot of them do. Why? Firstly, how many companies really know their employee's values? How many of them take the time in interview stage AND throughout the whole employment time to know and check in with the values. Values can change - alot of people don't realise that. But the values you had at 15 are going to be different to the ones you have now and the ones you have now will be different to the ones you will have in another 3,5 and 10 years. For me, working with companies on their values and then, in turn, their employee's values is always incredibly interesting. You see the real purpose come out of people, the reasons why they do certain things - even the reason why they want this job. When was the last time you checked in with yourself in terms of your values and beliefs? Questioned...

Your habits can destroy you

Your habits can destroy you

We all have habits, some good and some bad. Your habits are keeping you alive and kicking but your habits can also destroy you. How many of you have adopted these habits for a period of time; - The habit of doing jack shit ✔️ - The habit of being a victim✔️ - The habit of sitting in the same seat on the same train every day✔️ - The habit of not having a real conversation✔️ - The habit of not selling your services consistency ✔️ - The habit of focusing on others people's success rather than your own ✔️ - The habit of being too emotional involved in an outcome and allowing it to effect your week, month, year...life! ✔️ You may be thinking - "Oi Shaggerty, some of these aren't habits" Well you're wrong. If you are seeing these patterns crop are then they are a habit. You're not changing the structure/system/strategy to change the outcome. You're sitting there right now thinking "fuck I've got some bad habits" Guess what? So does everyone. You're not...
